As I prepare to embark on my journey, I envision my upcoming project not as an individual traveling across wild lands, meeting interesting people, and living to tell the tale, but rather as a point person, through whom new and interesting connections can be formed between people on opposite sides of the globe. Luckily, in today’s flat world, these kind of connections are made possible by the wonders of today’s technology.
As I was thinking about ways that I could help develop better people-to-people connections as a result of my journey, I thought of an idea that might be at least a beginning: Skype-Pals.
Today, Skype is an easy and cheap way to communicate with people around the world through internet telephone chat. As I am traveling, I am sure that I will meet people in Russia who would love to learn more about life in America, being Orthodox in America, or who would simply like to practice their English. At the same time, I am sure that many of you would love to participate in some way in my travels, interact with the people I am meeting, or practice your Russian! As a result, I hope to set up a network of Skype-Pals, which will link Orthodox youth from home, with the Orthodox students I’ll be meeting abroad.
All you need to do is download Skype for free at Skype.com, add me to your contacts (my Skype address is dimitry.doohovskoy), and tell me a little bit about yourself. Then, while I am traveling, I will put you in contact with a diverse group of Orthodox youth from around the world, who will be interested in meeting and talking to Orthodox youth from America.
For this, age does not matter, and neither does language proficiency. Even if you don’t speak a word of Russian, I’m sure there will be plenty of Russians who have been studying English and would like to practice, and learn more about America as well. If you need help setting up your Skype account, let me know and I’ll try my best to help!
If you are interested, send your Skype address to me on Skype at dimitry.doohovskoy, or by email to ddskoy@gmail.com, and I’ll add you to the list!
A rather interesting project. Sure, we will be anticipating your coming!
Sorry, I am so fast to give you advise. But one thing can let a Russian smile: the way of perception of the project as something global, big
Remember, the Russian love modesty.
Здравствуй, Дмитрий! Мы рады видеть тебя в России! Желаем тебе успехов в осуществлении этого проекта.
